Actor From HBO's Treme Found Dead In The Mississippi River "Michael Showers"
ShareThe body of a Chalmette man who had a minor recurring role on the HBO drama "Treme" was pulled from the Mississippi River near the French Quarter Wednesday, authorities said.
The captain of the Steamboat Natchez spotted Micheal Showers, 45, floating in the water between the St. Louis and Toulouse street wharfs about 11:15 a.m., authorities said.
Showers appeared to have been in the water about two days, said John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Orleans Parish coroner's office.
Harbor Police on the department's fire boat, the Gen. Roy S. Kelley, recovered Showers' body about 11:45, said Chris Bonura, a Port of New Orleans spokesman. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
Showers played New Orleans police Capt. John Guidry in "Treme." In the show, he was involved in investigating the murder of the real-life Helen Hill, who was killed in 2007. His character comes under criticism for his oversight of the NOPD's homicide squad.
