Beyoncé New 4 In Stores Now With Production From S1 From Waco / Dallas Texas

Share

Support this DFW music movement

R&B diva Beyoncé Knowles has enjoyed one of the most loyal fan bases of any modern recording artist and while the powerhouse performer was victim to an early album leak of her latest project, Bey’s patient fans will have to wait no longer as the Texas native just released her fourth album 4 to the public.

Coinciding with the number of LPs she’s released since embarking on her solo career, 4 is the first of Beyoncé’s albums done without tutelage from her father and former manager Matthew Knowles. The album boasts production from Kanye West, singer-songwriter Terius “The Dream” Nash with some songwriting credits going to Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean and legendary R&B star Babyface.

While many stars have lamented about early leaks of their album projects, Beyoncé took the action in stride – although she had the backing of a powerful legal team who did their best to remove the prematurely released material from online sources to no avail. Showing grace even in defeat, Beyoncé went to her Facebook fan page to address the leak.

“My music was leaked and while this is not how I wanted to present my new songs, I appreciate the positive response from my fans. When I record music I always think about my fans singing every note and dancing to every beat. I make music to make people happy and I appreciate that everyone has been so anxious to hear my new songs,” said Beyoncé. It was reported that Beyoncé recorded a whopping seventy-two tracks for 4, with just twelve songs making the final cut.

The album is light on features, with relatively inactive Outkast rapper Andre 3000 leaving his lyrical imprint on “Party” – a Kanye West-produced number. Always involved heavily in the development of her projects, Jay-Z’s better half shares songwriter and producer credits alongside the heavy hitters she put to work on 4. After releasing her first single “Run The World (Girls) back in April, earlier this month the album’s second single “Best Thing I Never Had” dropped and was produced by Texas-based Hip Hop producer S1.

Beyoncé’s album, while expected to top the Billboard charts as sales numbers are being tallied, has been met with criticism that the fashion forward beauty has matured perhaps a bit too much with her sound by employing slower ballads more than she has on her past works. A few critics expecting faster paced work in the vein of her contemporaries Lady Gaga and Britney Spears were disappointed by the lack of punch but most writers favored her newly adopted sound.

Fresh off a 90-minute set as the headlining act for the UK's Glastonbury Festival this past Sunday (June 26) and a hour-long chat last evening (June 27) with CNN host Piers Morgan on his night time talk show, Beyoncé has all but assured Columbia Records execs that her fans will show support for her new album as social media networks are ablaze with fans stating that they're purchasing the record and approve of the singer's direction in sound.

Keeping true to her single, it appears that Beyoncé is back to running the world once again.

Dirk Gets A Major Homecoming Welcome In His Hometown

Share

from Yahoo

Dirk Nowitzki, the German playmaker who led the Dallas Mavericks to an NBA Finals victory, admitted he was "overwhelmed" by the response as he came back to his home city on Tuesday.
"This is the highlight of my career," he said during the celebrations in his home city of Wuerzburg.

The 33-year-old, voted the Most Valuable Player of the NBA championship series, made his first appearance in Germany 16 days after his team's triumph and was greeted by a crowd of 3,000 fans at the city's basketball stadium.
"It's absolutely overwhelming what's going on here," said the visibly moved Nowitzki upon returning to the Franconia city, 120km from Frankfurt am Main.
"I had not expected this and I won't forget this day for the rest of my life."
Nowitzki was greeted with chants of 'MVP' and was welcomed with a standing ovation when he entered the arena, in which he started his professional career by helping DJK Wuerzburg win promotion to the Bundesliga in 1997.
Despite a marathon two week-long party in America, Nowitzki says he is keeping his feet on the ground and patiently answered questions from fans and over 140 journalists for more than an hour.

With his left hand bandaged because of a torn tendon in the middle finger, Nowitzki says he does not know if he will play for the German national team at the European Championships in Lithuania this September.
"Now I'm taking a vacation first, then I'll make the decision," he said, having already won 127 caps for Germany.
He did, however, definitely rule out any talk of retirement despite fulfilling his lifetime dream of winning the NBA, and said his MVP trophy from the NBA finals has remained Stateside.
Following the press conference, the party for 'Dirkules', as he has been dubbed, was due to get into full swing.

After signing the city's official book, a reception was planned on the balcony of the city's impressive palace.
Normally, such an event is prohibited as the city has World Heritage Site status, but a special exception was made for the return of Nowitzki.

My "Michael Jackson" Tribute by PiKaHsSo & The Fabulous Verbadelycks 2011

This is a Special Michael Jackson Tribute that i Did for one of the greatest entertainers ever Michael Jackson I started editing this on June 24th 2011 @ 6:29pm i completed this today June 25th 2011 @ 10:38am all vocals & editing by PiKaHsSo contact 214.901.PiK1 For More info on show booking, graphix, Editing & etc.

Michael Jackson was Born (August 29, 1958 -- June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, dancer, singer-songwriter, musician, and philanthropist. Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5, then the Jacksons in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.
In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style have influenced numerous hip hop, pop, contemporary R&B, and rock artists.

Jackson's 1982 album Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. His other records, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), also rank among the world's best-selling. Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He was also inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame as the first (and currently only) dancer from the world of pop and rock 'n' roll. Some of his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records; 13 Grammy Awards (as well as the Grammy Legend Award and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award); 26 American Music Awards (more than any other artist, including the "Artist of the Century"); 13 number-one singles in the United States in his solo career (more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era); and the estimated sale of over 750 million records worldwide. Jackson won hundreds of awards, which have made him the most-awarded recording artists in the history of music.

He was also a notable humanitarian and philanthropist, donating and raising hundreds of millions of dollars for beneficial causes and supporting more than 39 charities. According to David Winters, Jackson also donated tens of millions of dollars to many children's charities anonymously, and spent a lot of his time visiting seriously ill children tirelessly going from hospital to hospital meeting these children just to brighten up their lives. When Jackson finished the visits he would ask the hospital nurses and the doctors what was needed at the hospital in terms of equipment for the children and would then make anonymous donations to the hospital to purchase expensive equipment or whatever else was needed

Skateboarding Legend Eric Swenson Of Thrasher Mag Commits Suicide R.I.P.

Share

SAN FRANCISCO – Skateboard business icon Eric Swenson, co-founder of the magazine Thrasher who reinvigorated the sidewalk surfing craze in the late 1970s with his Independent Trucks equipment firm, has died in San Francisco.
Police say the 64-year-old Swenson shot himself to death on Monday in front of the Mission police station.

The San Francisco Chronicle says Independent Trucks made a high-quality truck, the metal connector between the skateboard and its wheels that enabled moves necessary for jumps and tricks.
Swenson and friend Fausto Vitello opened the manufacturing company in San Francisco in 1978.
Three years later, Swenson, Vitello and Kevin Thatcher co-founded skateboarding's Thrasher magazine.
Swenson is survived by wife Linda McKay and sisters Rebekah Engle and Sonja Taylor, both of San Francisco.

Lakers Star Ron Artest May Change His Name

Share
It's not the coolest name change in sports history, World B. Free has him beat there, and it's not exactly a novel idea when Chad Ochocinco beats you to the punch a few years before, but Ron Artest's(notes) pending name change to -- get ready -- "Metta World Peace" is a real thing. An all-too real thing.

wow i like Ron but man he's weird

Apparently, Lakers radio reporter John Ireland broke the news on his show earlier Thursday, and TMZ picked it up from there. AP confirmed the madness is true. Metta World Peace, with "Metta" apparently a word derived from the Buddhist religion and the Sanskrit language meaning "friendliness," "benevolence" and all manner of other heartwarming descriptions.

It's the latest move from the kindler, gentler Ron -- er, Metta World Peace. In the 6 1/2 years since he charged into the stands in Detroit to confront someone who had thrown a drink at him, Peace has rebuilt his image through his play with three other teams, won a championship in Los Angeles, auctioned off his championship ring to raise money for mental health research and care, all while staying incident free. He tended to clang quite a few jumpers as the Lakers disappointed and fell in the second round of the playoffs last month, but how can you get angry at a guy with "Peace" on the back of his jersey?
The change is up to you, Los Angeles Superior Court. Give Peace a chance.

The 10 Most Powerful People In Dallas A Yahoo Exclusive

Share

I wanna make this list one year

Victor Medina – Tue Jun 21, 6:24 pm ET
Contribute content like this. Start here.
COMMENTARY | Who is the most powerful person in Dallas? It is not an easy question to answer, as it seems everyone has a different idea as to what true power actually is.
For this list, we define power as one's ability to influence or control our daily lives in the city of Dallas. From politicians to media members and clergy to civil servants, we looked over many of Dallas' finest and came up with a list of 10 people who most affect our lives each day. That means some notables do not make the top 10 list, including Roger Staubach, Mark Cuban, Ross Perot, and Jerry Jones. It also means some lesser-known individuals make the cut. Here is our list:

10. Robert Wilonsky, columnist, Dallas Observer
Sure, the Observer may be popular as bird cage liner and the go-to source for local massage therapists, but Wilonsky gives the paper serious journalistic credibility. No one keeps local elected officials accountable like Robert Wilonsky, and he has his finger on the pulse of local issues.

9. Brett Shipp, reporter, WFAA Channel 8
Shipp has a well-earned reputation for breaking significant news stories and exposing scandal. When he reports on something, people all the way up the totem pole pay attention. Channel 8 may not have the best TV news organization in Dallas, but they get the most attention.

8. Wade Emmert, chairman, Dallas County Republican Party
There is one reason Emmert is on this list while his counterpart, Dallas County Democratic Party Chair Darlene Ewing, is not: the Tea Party. No other group of voters has been as vocal or mobilized as Dallas-area Tea Partiers, and while Emmert is not their official leader, he has a lot of influence with them. All of the ruckus coming from the Dallas County Commissioners Court recently has come from Tea Partiers and Republicans following Emmert's direction.

7. George W. Bush, former president of the United States
Having a former president living in town gives Dallas a serious boost, and that includes the soon-to-be Presidential Library and Policy Center at SMU. That institution alone will bring some serious political figures to Dallas in the years to come, but recently the former president has kept a relatively low profile, which is why he is not ranked higher. Most of his activities have involved philanthropic and civic events, but as he steps back into the local spotlight, his influence grows.

6. David Brown, Dallas police chief
Brown has managed to overcome personal tragedy (the death of his son in a police shootout) while keeping officer morale high. He has brought down crime city-wide and kept a once out-of-control police department in order.

5. John Carona and Royce West, state senators
Both Carona and West have kept Dallas interests in the forefront while in Austin. Carona is chair of the powerful Senate Business and Commerce Committee, while West is chair of the Subcommittee of Higher Education Funding.

4. Alan King, Dallas Independent School District interim superintendent
It may be the one job in Dallas no one really wants. Whoever leads the Dallas Independent School District will have to do more than right a district in chaos and balance a budget. He or she will have to improve teacher morale and stand up to the powerful teachers' union by getting rid of dead wood at DISD headquarters.

3. Mike Rawlings, Dallas mayor-elect
Rawlings, the newly elected Dallas mayor, may not carry traditional power in Dallas' form of government, but he has a bully pulpit from which to guide the direction of the city and set public opinion. He has some serious issues to face, including balancing a budget and turning around underserved parts of Dallas. His initiatives could impact the city for decades.
2. John Wiley Price, Dallas County commissioner

It is obvious who wields the power at the county level. Love him or hate him, Price has power and influence in nearly all aspects of county government. Now, if he will only learn to keep his temper and his mouth in check, he could be a true leader for all of Dallas.

1. Mary Suhm, Dallas city manager
Dallas' form of city government is a weak-mayor system, which means the city manager has control of all aspects of Dallas' day-to-day operations. For the most part, Suhm and her staff have done a great job, but she only gets attention when something goes wrong. It is a thankless job, but she does it well.

MTV Jackass Star Ryan Dunn Killed In Car Accident Rest In Peace

Share

man this is sad i use to love watching him, Bam & Johnny Knoxville act crazy on that show Rest In Peace Ryan

Ryan Dunn, the 34-year-old "Jackass" star, died in a fatal car crash on Sunday night in Pennsylvania, MTV News confirmed Monday (June 20).

According to police, the accident occurred at 3 a.m. on Route 322 and New Street in West Goshen Township. While it's unknown who was driving at the time, an unidentified passenger also died in the crash. April Margera, the mother of Dunn's "Jackass" co-star Bam, broke the news to WMMR 93.3's "Preston and Steve" radio show.

"We are devastated by the tragic loss of Ryan Dunn — a beloved member of the MTV family for more than a decade," Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music/Film Group, said in a statement. "He made us all laugh and had the tireless enthusiastic approach to life of your favorite middle school friend. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Ryan's family and friends. The Jackass brotherhood will never be the same."

In the last photo Dunn posted to Twitter, he and two friends are seen drinking what may be alcoholic beverages. TMZ also reported that the car caught fire in the crash. A tow truck was later sent to the scene to remove the car. A photo obtained by an NBC affiliate in Pennsylvania, showed the wrecked car on the side of the road. As of press time, no further information was known about the accident.

Born in Ohio, Dunn grew up in New York, before moving to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he would hook up with Bam's CKY Crew. He kicked off his career doing crazy stunts and skateboard tricks in a series of online videos, which eventually led to his part in MTV's "Jackass" in 2000. The daredevil was a key member of the crew, appearing in "Jackass" spin-offs like "Viva La Bam" and "Bam's Unholy Union," as Bam's sidekick and often acting as the voice of reason within the zany crew. He also had his own a short-lived home improvement show on MTV called "Homewreckers" in 2005. Dunn's new show "Proving Ground," in which he and co-host Jessica Chobot test out action sequences from TV, games and movies, premiered on G4 last Tuesday.

When MTV News sat down with the "Jackass" crew last year, they named Dunn's first stunt for the show as one of their favorites in 10 years of the TV show and movies. "I loved when [Bam Margera] made Ryan jump into the poo factory, the 'Poo Dive' I think we called it," creator Jeff Tremaine said. " 'Cause that was horrible, but the best part was ... revealing his tattoos that we didn't know about. That was the first time we ever met Ryan."

He appeared in all three "Jackass" flicks and even took a stab at Hollywood, with a role in non-"Jackass" projects like the Jessica Simpson flick "Blonde Ambition" and on the NBC procedural staple "Law & Order: SVU."

Last year, Jackass 3D" found overwhelming box-office success, raking in $50 million in its first week. "Jackass 3.5: The Unrated Movie" just hit stores last week, revealing more stunts that didn't make it into the blockbuster film.

President @BarackObama Shows The @DallasMavs & Coach Carlisle Some Love For Winning The NBA Championship

Share

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has congratulated the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks for winning the National Basketball Association championship and says he looks forward to seeing the team in person at the White House.
The White House says Obama spoke to head coach Rick Carlisle Friday. Obama specifically highlighted the performances of Mavericks players Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry and J.J. Barea. The Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the finals Sunday.
Nowitzki, a German forward for the team, was named Most Valuable Player of the finals.
Obama, an avid basketball fan, roots for his hometown Chicago Bulls.
He told Carlisle he was proud of how the Mavericks played, the White House said.
There was no word on when the team might visit the White House.

R.I.P. Musician Clarence Clemons Of Bruce Springsteens E Street Band

Share

wow how sad i remember him when i was a kid another Legend gone

Clarence Clemons, the longtime saxophonist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, died Saturday of complications from a stroke. He was 69.

Known as The Big man, the 6', 4" former college football player was a legendary sideman for the New Jersey-born rocker from the early 1970s, playing on such hits as "Born to Run" and "Thunder Road."

Clemons had dealt with a series of medical problems over the past decade, including having both knees replaced and spinal fusion surgery, but his health had seemed to be improving.

He performed just last month with Lady Gaga on the season finale of American Idol. Then last week, it was revealed he had been hospitalized with a stroke. After early improvement, he took a turn for the worse later in the week.

Dallas Political Activist Al Lipscomb Dead @ Age 86

Share

By JOE SIMNACHER and GROMER JEFFERS JR

Albert Louis “Al” Lipscomb, the outspoken political activist who oscillated between crowning achievements and humiliating disgraces, died at his daughter’s home early Saturday. He was 86.
Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price said Lipscomb died about 4:30 a.m., surrounded by family. Price called Lipscomb his “father in consciousness” because he inspired the commissioner and so many others to fight civil injustice.

Lipscomb was a leader in efforts that helped black Dallas residents gain a toehold in city politics and was the lead plaintiff in the successful lawsuit that ended the unconstitutional at-large system of electing council members.
Longtime South Dallas leader Diane Ragsdale recalled that Lipscomb recruited her into the civil rights movement when she was a student at James Madison High School and that he served as her political mentor for many years thereafter.
“He was one of the strong warriors and soldiers early on, and sometimes he was out there by himself,” she said.

Lipscomb’s agitation of the city’s white power structure and his groundbreaking lawsuit were keys to bringing a measure of social justice to a city long divided along racial lines, she said.

“He and his family made tremendous sacrifices so that he could give a voice to the voiceless and power to those who were powerless,” she said.
Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, now the U.S. trade representative, called Lipscomb a complex man who loved his family and the city.

“He was lovable, irascible and at times a hell-raiser,” Kirk said. “But we never questioned his love for the city and his passion for justice…He could rail at you one moment, but always come back and put his arm around you.”
In 1995, Kirk became the first black mayor elected in Dallas; years later, he would preside over the city's first minority-majority council. He also was mayor when a majority of the council was composed of women.

“All that can be traced back to Al's fight,” Kirk said. “He was willing to speak out for the rights of women and people of color when it wasn't popular to do so.”
Mayor Dwaine Caraway said that Lipscomb paved the way for people like him.
“I would not be the mayor today had it not been for Al Lipscomb and the doors he opened,” Caraway said.
Lipscomb’s abrasive style frustrated many people, particularly in Dallas’ white establishment.
But agitation was needed, Caraway said.
“He had his own style that was fit for that particular time,” said Caraway, who grew up knowing the fiery council member.

Ragsdale also defended Lipscomb’s style.
“Oftentimes those people in power don’t move until they are pushed, until they are confronted. You must have people like Al Lipscomb to push people forward,” she said.
Price said it was noteworthy that Lipscomb died on the day of the Dallas mayoral runoff and a day before Juneteenth, the annual commemoration of the day when slaves in Texas found out they had been freed.

“He probably planned it that way,” Price said.
Lipscomb rose from a background that included doing time in a California jail to becoming one Dallas’ first blacks with political clout.
He was often either beloved or despised as he weaved his way thorough a public life, where the only constant seemed to be his amazing resilience.
He was the lead plaintiff in the landmark lawsuit that forced Dallas to elect council members by individual districts, and the first black candidate for Dallas mayor. He served 15 years on the council, including time as mayor pro tem.
“He’s been to Dallas what Martin Luther King Jr. was to the United States,” the late Mayor Jack Evans once said.

But there were low points in his career.
They included a February 2000 federal bribery conviction that forced him off the council. The conviction — for accepting payments from a taxicab operator — was later overturned.
Lipscomb always maintained he did nothing wrong and the case drew deep divisions in the city.
Supporters said he was never motivated by personal gain.
“He was one of the few civil rights leaders that had the people’s interest at heart,” said former Dallas NAACP leader Lee Alcorn. “That’s rare in civil rights and politics.”
Lipscomb’s entry to the Dallas civil rights movement was an improbable one.
He was a 40-year-old headwaiter when a scolding from his boss prompted him to become active in the struggle for equality.

From his earliest days as a street protester to his last as a dignified public figure, he was an outspoken and occasionally outrageous defender of civil rights and challenger of the status quo.
“I’ve been obnoxious, bodacious, unorthodox and I have been strident,” he once said. “That’s what I had to use; those are my tools for change.”
He survived term limits, the federal conviction and fragile health to remain a public voice in Dallas.

In 2005, he lost his last foray into the political arena. He campaigned for a spot on the City Council against incumbent James Fantroy.
The race was particularly contentious because Fantroy had provided financial aid to Lipscomb and his family during Lipscomb’s public corruption trial.
After the race, Lipscomb said that he only wanted to serve the people in his southern Dallas district, and that both men had emerged from the contest unbowed.
Lipscomb’s legacy is impressive, bruises and all.
He used show-stopping tactics to relentlessly denounce everything from police brutality and bus-fare increases to racist jury-selection practices.
Privately a gentle and polite man, he became the symbol of black militancy to many Dallas whites during the ’70s and ’80s. In 1997, he proudly noted that Mr. Evans was the only Dallas mayor in recent history who hadn’t ejected him from a City Council meeting.
In those days, he was called “the Lip.”
“My mother would say, ‘Albert, do you have to do it that way?’ ” he said. “I had to get their attention,” was his reply.
Lipscomb was born in East Dallas in a home built by his parents and maternal grandparents. He was educated in the Dallas public schools, attending Booker T. Washington High School and graduating from Lincoln High School.
He joined the Army Air Forces in 1943 and served four years in California with the Military Police.
“I was discharged out there, didn’t come home and got in trouble,” he said.
For a time, Lipscomb said, he was ashamed of his blackness to the point that he smeared his face with bleach to try to lighten his skin. He also turned to drugs.
Lipscomb served 10 months of a one-year jail sentence in California for selling heroin. Ashamed, he told his mother he was working in Alaska.
He was shocked by the waste of human potential he observed in jail. To counter it, he organized boxing matches and softball games.
After being released for good behavior, Lipscomb returned to Dallas, where he became headwaiter to a staff of nine at the executive dining room of First National Bank.
“I was the headwaiter, the headwaiter, from the tuxedo down,” he said. His duties included preparing a room where legendary oilman H.L. Hunt would eat lunch.
“We’d get a glass of water and a phone and you didn’t bother him,” Lipscomb said. Hunt, who was infamous for his economizing, brought his lunch and cleaned up after himself.
“When he got through, there wasn’t even a crumb,” Lipscomb said.
Lipscomb also waited dinner tables at Dallas’ finest restaurants, including La Tunisia, Chateaubriand and the Safari Club, as well as the Adolphus and Baker hotels.
In 1966 he joined Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty, becoming a neighborhood organizer for the Dallas Community Action Agency. He was also and organizer for the Dallas chapter of King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
“It changed my life around,” he said. “I did a hell of a job, let me tell you.”
Lipscomb discovered he had a talent for getting access to decision makers who could move the bureaucracy.
In April 1971, Lipscomb was the first black candidate for mayor, finishing third out of a field of 10. The race cost Lipscomb his Block Partnership job.
In 1972, Lipscomb opened the South Dallas Information Center on Pennsylvania Avenue, where he handled a constant stream of phone calls and questions from passers-by seeking assistance. The center was supported by donations. He also kept his high profile by making the rounds of public meetings, asking embarrassing questions, leveling charges and offering suggestions.
In April 1984, after unsuccessful bids for county commissioner, the Texas Legislature, Congress and the Dallas school board, Lipscomb was elected to the City Council.
Avery Mays, the candidate of the Citizens Charter Association -- the white business group whose candidates had won every election since the 1930s -- was thought to be a shoo-in, Lipscomb said. “I threw my support to Wes Wise and we got it,” he said. “That broke the back of the CCA.”
The same year, Lipscomb was the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit that challenged Dallas’ citywide method of electing council members as unconstitutional. Years later, the city would capitulate, and minorities would routinely win council seats for the first time.
“Without him, all that would not have happened,” said Roy Williams, one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit that led to the council being composed of 14 single-member districts and the mayor at-large. “He is a legend and we just finished what he started.”
In the late 1980s, Lipscomb and Ragsdale — the only blacks on the City Council — drew national media attention and local death threats.
Hundreds of police marched in protest on City Hall after Lipscomb and Ragsdale contributed to the legal defense fund of a black man accused of killing an officer. Someone with an ice pick once threatened Lipscomb and Ragsdale on an elevator.
While Lipscomb remained both a critic and skeptic of the city’s established leadership, he also embraced the city he loved.
“I see a great change,” he said. “I see a great change, a change for the better.”

STUCK The Creative DFW Airport Prank Video that Pissing Everyone Off

Share

me myself personally find it to be very creative and well shot and i think these 2 kids should get a movie deal and make their 1st movie about a situation like this. Lighten up America and quit taking everything so gotdamn serious

Jack Fink, CBS 11 News
A new video making the rounds of the Internet shows two guys goofing around after hours at DFW International Airport.
What concerns some is that no one seems to do anything to stop them.
It's meant to be funny, but not everyone is laughing.
For most travelers, airports aren't really a fun place. But the video, posted Monday to the video sharing website Vimeo, shows two guys having some fun late at night in an empty terminal.
Photographer Joe Ayala and friend Larry Chen say they were stranded after their connecting flight out of DFW was cancelled. So they made a go of it — racing wheelchairs and doing stuff some travelers only dream of doing.
It was all under the watchful eye of DFW's security cameras, but there is no sign of airport police.
CBS 11 showed the video to Taylor O'Donovan, who was catching a flight to Detroit. "I can't believe there wasn't some kind of security or someone walking around at all to even see that."
Aviation security experts who have seen the video say it doesn't show any major security concerns because the two guys were ticketed passengers who had already been screened by the TSA.
DFW airport board member Betty Culbreath says while it may have been a prank, it sent the wrong message. "It's not funny. It's not going to happen again as far as I'm concerned. It should not have happened because it gives the perception the airport is sitting out there unguarded and that's why I was concerned, and am still concerned."
At one point in the video, one of the men enters the kitchen of Pappadeux's Restaurant in Terminal E and pours himself what appears to be beer.
Airport spokesman David Magana says the men didn't have permission to be in there. He acknowledges the video raises questions of how well the airport secures businesses, and says they are looking into it.
Traveler Frank Myers wasn't amused either. "If this were all staged on a set, I'd be laughing right now. That's staged in a public arena, and they're costing money for us travelers, and I don't care for it at all."
The airport says it's too soon to determine whether they'll file criminal charges against the men.
A spokesman for TSA says he hadn't seen the video, and couldn't comment.
CBS 11 tried contacting Ayala and Chen for this story, as well as the operator of the restaurant, but were unable to reach them.
American Airlines, the airline that runs most of the gates the men were playing around at, declined commen
