R&B Neo Soul singer and songwriter Erykah Badu has been banned from performing in Malaysia after pictures began circulating of the singer with what appear to be temporary tattoos of the Arabic word for “Allah” on her body.

The 41 year old performer, who had already arrived in the country, was expected to perform in Kuala Lumpur when the decision came down from local officials. Malaysian information minister Rais Yatim wrote in Malay on Twitter that the performance was canceled for “touching on religious sensitivities” and failing to be in accord with “Malaysian cultural values.” According to the Associated Press, the performance by the singer is one of the first concerts by a Western performer to be canceled in recent years in that country.

Badu’s last two tweets on Twitter were “Malaysia!!” and “I deserve it.” A representative for Badu didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
