The Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession on Thursday, and expects to receive a one-year jail sentence.

He previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3 1/2 years in prison upon conviction.

Lil Wayne remains free on bail while awaiting his February sentencing. The somber-looking rapper did not speak as he left court.

Police said a gun was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in 2007.

The rapper, born Dwayne Carter, won last year's best rap solo performance Grammy for "A Milli." His albums include "Tha Carter," "Tha Carter II" and "Tha Carter III."

His trial had been due to start Jan. 20. The judge had been holding a hearing on a debated DNA profiling technique used to tie the rapper to the gun.

Lil Wayne, 27, also is scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case, which arose from a January 2008 arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.

In New York, he politely answered the judge's standard questions with "yes, Sir" and "no, Sir" as he entered his plea to second-degree attempted weapon possession, a felony.

He acknowledged he had a .40 caliber semi-automatic loaded gun on bus.

When the judge warned that he would not be able to withdraw the plea as some people try to do, the rapper said, "I'm not one of those people."

Prosecutors said small amounts of DNA found on the loaded weapon connected it to the platinum-selling artist. Defense lawyer Stacey Richman said the gun wasn't Lil Wayne's, and the testing technique was too problematic to prove otherwise.

Police pulled over Lil Wayne's tour bus in Columbus Circle on July 22, 2007. They said they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke wafting out the door before the bus left a concert venue minutes earlier.

Police said that as an officer approached, the rapper tossed away a Louis Vuitton bag containing a gun.

I can't stand for guys to allow women to abuse them mentally, or physically it sickens me when I was young I realized early that women get away with alot of stuff cause they know how to mentally manipulate the situation so me i've never stay with a woman that was violent, disrespectul, cold hearted, mean spirited, or none of that. But it takes alot more than the basics to be a man or a woman wanna know how I know cause i use to not be a man who use to think I was a man. And ive seen so many women who are highly misguided and have no lack of direction and sabotage their happiness by running good men out of they life. Well I tell you what ladies you'll wind up being like THIS if you keep it up. Im not picking on the ladies im just keeping it real its so easy to say what a man does in a relationship but the pain yall inflict is often swept under the rug. Well im letting it be know no woman will ever treat me like crap id rather sleep outside in cow shit than to degrade myself and allow myself to be treated less than human by a woman who has no respect for me or herself.

Captain Lou Albano, a former professional wrestler and actor (though never a sea captain), recently passed away at the age of 76 of natural causes. In the wake of his death, searches surged on the man and his unique body of work.

While primarily a manager in the World Wrestling Federation, Albano may have been best known for his role in the '80s music video "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Albano played the part of Cyndi Lauper's ill-humored dad who simply couldn't understand his daughter's desire to cut loose. The New York Daily News explains that the video's combination of rock and wrestling helped to "boost both Lauper's record sales and the WWE's ratings."

Albano spent the majority of his career as a manager for singlet-clad gladiators in the WWF (now named WWE). His maniacal beard, often tamed with a rubber band, made him instantly recognizable. CNN writes that Albano's rough-and-tumble attitude "earned him the distinction of 'one of the most hated men' in wrestling for 15 years." That might sound like nothing to brag about, but in pro wrestling, being loathed is just as good as being loved.

And, from what we can tell, Albano still loved the sport, or at least fighting. According to the NY Daily News, his 75th birthday party "turned into a drunken battle royal, with the arrest of one wrestler."

In the late '80s, Albano starred in "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" The bizarre program was part cartoon, part live-action comedy. Albano played Mario, and often acted alongside C-list guest stars like Eve Plumb and Vanna White. Though it lasted only one season, the show entered syndication and can be purchased on DVD.
Still, despite his accomplishments in the wrestling world and his portrayal of video games' biggest stars, the masses are likely to remember Albano for his work with Cyndi Lauper. Below, the video that helped make Lou an icon of the '80s. Have fun.
