I Can Not Let This Day Go By without saying Nappy Birthday To Hip Hop The culture as we know it & The Legendary DJ Kool Herc the creator & father of the artform. If you're reading this & you've ever benefited off of Hiphop in any way shape form or fashion you should pay homage to this man. Painters should paint pictures of him, Rappers should have him in they videos, our kids should know about him, club owners should be booking him, schools should teach about him in a course, radio stations should acknowledge him because with out hiphop there would be no us.
On this date in 1973, DJ Kool Herc threw his first party in the Bronx, N.Y. For the low, low price of $0.50 ($0.25 for the ladies), partygoers could listen and dance to a new sound that would soon take the world by storm: hip-hop.
DJ Kool Herc is recognized as the father of hip-hop, and today is its official birthday. Since that first party at1520 Sedwick Avenue, what began as an expression of culture has become a culture all its own. Hip-hop has left its imprint on everything it has touched in the past 40 years -- fashion, activism, dance, education. It's been a wild ride for the genre most thought was a simple fad, one that will no doubt rage on long into the future.
Hip-hop fans are celebrating its birth online by sharing their favorite songs, quotes and videos, and thanking their favorite artists for the impact they've made on their lives.

It has been reported veteran jazz, R&B, funk and fusion keyboard virtuoso George Duke has died aged 67. This news comes after a difficult period for the acclaimed keyboardist and composer whose wife Corine passed away just over a year ago. The Radio Facts website states that Duke died on 5 August but no other details have yet been confirmed as to the cause of his death, which comes while he had just launched his latest album,Dreamweaver, which he’d dedicated to his wife’s memory.
Former Supremes member and friend Sherrie Payne stated: “I just received the devastating and sad news that the great musician, George Duke, passed away this evening at St. John’s hospital in L.A. It was just one year earlier, 18 July that his beloved wife and my friend, Corine, went to be with the Lord. Please keep his sons, Rasheed and John, in your prayers.”
Other leading musicians including Headhunters bassist Paul Jacksonreacted with sadness to the news of Duke’s death: "Just lost a great brother and friend George Duke RIP I know Heaven awaits you my sympathy to all your friends and family Paul Jackson." While jazz flautist Bobbi Humphrey posted on her Facebook page saying: "I am so hard trying. Too much to lose George! Please pray for me! George Duke! Forty years, my friend! Lord, why? Heaven! A little bit funkier! R.I.P. Dear Heart!"
Duke’s career spanned jazz, funk and fusion beginning with his modern own jazz group in the 1960s backing the likes of Sonny Rollins andDexter Gordon, but he was soon moving into the fusion terrain that would define much of his career as he began a longstanding musical partnership with violinist Jean-Luc Ponty in the early 1970s. He was invited to join Frank Zappa’s ground breaking band The Mothers Of Invention and worked with them from 1969-1975, while also going on to work with Sonny Rollins and co-lead a band with Billy Cobham. His solo career began to take shape too as he released a number of classic albums for MPS and Epic including Faces in Reflection, I Love the Blues, The Aura Will Prevail, Brazilian Love Affair, Master of the Gameand Thief In the Night.

Rest iN Peace Dallas Texas Radio Legend Kidd Kraddick

Multiple sources have confirmed to WFAA that radio and TV personality Kidd Kraddick has died.
He passed away in New Orleans Saturday at a fundraising event for his Kidd's Kids charity organization.
A staple of North Texas radio since 1984, he broadcast his nationally syndicated "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning" radio show from a studio at Las Colinas. It aired locally on KISS-FM 106.1.
"All of us at KISS-FM, Clear Channel Dallas, YEA Networks and the Kidd Kraddick in the Morning crew are heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend and leader," a statement from Clear Channel Dallas said late Saturday night.
Kraddick was 53. The cause of his death was not available.
His family issued a brief statement asking that their privacy be respected in their mourning period.
In a bitterly ironic twist, Kraddick did a radio segment just last week on "what he would say to each member of the show in his final moments on earth" as a comedy bit.
